Why do some bosses disappear so quickly?

From my experience the rare bosses that appear between 5 - 10 days - last 1.3 to 2 hours before they disappear.

Those that appear every 10 - 18 days last between 3 - 5 hours.

Do you know how long the bosses last before they puff? What does it depend on?
